Indian government accusations against Karmapa resurface as formal charges Posted: 08 Dec 2011 08:00 AM PST Via kagyuoffice.org Though he was originally cleared of suspicion back in February of this year, His Holiness the Karmapa has now been officially charged by the Indian government of conspiracy and knowledge of undeclared money. His Holiness's home of Gyuto Monastery had been raided in January, and 1.35 million dollars found; this money was explained as having been donated by followers, and Thupten Samphal, a spokesman of the Tibetan government in exiles maintains now that, as he told the Associated Press, "What resulted was due to negligence on part of the staff members of the Karmapa," as well of "ignorance of Indian law." Japanese leaders sign petition in support of Tibet Posted: 08 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST Senior leaders in Japan have signed on to a petition calling for a global intervention in Tibet. According to Phayul.com, two Vice Ministers and two Members of Parliament have signed a petition calling for a "coordinated international response to condemn China's repressive measures in Tibet." The petition also calls for the removal of Chinese security forces in Ngaba and elsewhere in Tibet. On December 6, members of the Tibetan Community of Japan and Students for a Free Tibet visited the offices of fourteen Japanese Members of Parliament to brief them on the current situation and urge them to raise awareness for the Tibetan plight. Since March of this year, thirteen Tibetans have self-immolated in protest of Chinese repression. (Photo by SFT HQ via Flickr using a CC-BY license.) Read More @ Source |

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 10:00 AM PST Jenny Lykken, Ali Smith, Atman Smith at Creating a Mindful Society Mindfulness on the NBC Nightly News? Maybe so. Read on. In the January 2012 edition of his Shambhala Sun column "The Mindful Society," Barry Boyce shares an account of Fall's "Creating a Mindful Society" conference in New York City. Many attendees were already aware of some of the conference's presenters — like Jon Kabat-Zinn, Saki Santorelli, and Richie Davidson — and these didn't disappoint. A new wave of pioneers was just as inspiring — among them Congressman Tim Ryan and Google's Jenny Lykken. And then there were Ali and Atman Smith of Baltimore's Holistic Life Foundation — Barry profiled their work back in the March — whose talk garnered a standing ovation and more than a couple of tears. And it could very well be that such enthusiasm for their work will be spreading like wildfire as of this evening: Holistic Life Foundation has announced on its Facebook page that it will be profiled on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams tonight — so long as some event of the day doesn't knock it out, of course. Be sure to tune in if you can, because you're sure to love what the HLF folks are doing. In the meantime, learn more about them in Barry's current-issue article, "Meeting of the Mindful," which you can read online in its complete form here. (Includes a link to watch Ali and Atman, and others' talks from Creating a Mindful Society.) Read More @ Source |
