Tianjin is a major city in the People's Republic of China. It has experienced an eventful and turbulent history, with many foreign occupations and a multitude of military incidents. By the turn of the 19th century many western nations had established their presence in Tianjin, establishing their individual self-contained enclaves with their own administration. Each of these nations left their mark on the city in the form of churches and villas, giving Tianjin a rich architectural heritage. Tianjin also has many attractions of local origin, and the city has become a popular destination for tourists.

The Temple of Great Compassion is a notable attraction in Tianjin. A Zen Buddhist temple originally constructed in the early Qing Dynasty, it was refurbished during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor in the Qing Dynasty. This early construction, consisting of three great halls including the Abbot Hall and the Cultural Relic Hall, now makes up the old monastery of the temple.

The new monastery is a more recent addition, consisting of the entrance gate, Main Shrine Hall, Tianwang Hall, Xuanzang's Memorial Hall and Dabei Hall. The Main Shrine Hall, also called Daxiong Temple, is the principal building of the temple. In the centre sits a statue of Sakyamuni (Buddha) with his retinue on either side. The six ton, 7 meter high statue rests on a 'lotus throne' with 9,999 miniature Buddhas carved on it. The Great Compassion Hall contains a 3.6 meter mud statue of 'Thousand-hand Kwan-yin'.

The monastery formerly gained fame as the resting place of relics of Xuanzang, a monk of the Tang Dynasty. However the relics were presented to India in 1956, where they now rest in the Patna museum. Since the removal of the relics from the temple, the monastery uses the image of Xuanzang during worship of the Buddha.

The temple also contains offices for the Abbot Palace, Cultural Relic Palace and the Chinese Buddhism Association. The Cultural Relic Palace contains artifacts from many dynasties includi! ng many Buddha statues in iron, bronze, wood and stone.

Raffles Tianjin occupying the upper floors of the Tianjin Centre's West Tower and is a distinctive luxury hotel in Tianjin. A groundbreaking penthouse hotel, this Tianjin hotel offers its patrons sumptuous comforts, modern amenities and many dining options with a breathtaking view of the city.

Combining humor, honesty, and plainspoken advice, Momma Zen distills the doubts and frustrations of parenting into vignettes of Zen wisdom.

Drawing on her experience as a first-time mother, and on her years of Zen meditation and study, Miller explores how the daily challenges of parenthood can become the most profound spiritual journey of our lives.

This compelling and wise memoir follows the timeline of early motherhood from pregnancy through toddlerhood. Momma Zen takes readers on a transformative journey, charting a mother's growth beyond naive expectations and disorientation to finding fulfillment in ordinary tasks, developing greater self-awareness and acceptance—to the gradual discovery of "maternal bliss," a state of abiding happiness and ease that is available to us all.

In her gentle and reassuring voice, Karen Miller convinces us that ancient and authentic spiritual lessons can be as familiar as a lullaby, as ordinary as pureed peas, and as frequent as a sleepless night. She offers encouragement for the hard days, consolation for the long haul, and the lightheartedness every new mom needs to face the crooked path of motherhood straight on.

Stress. It is everywhere around us. Even worse, it gets inside us: sapping our energy, undermining our health, and making us more vulnerable to anxiety, depression, and disease. Now, based on Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn's renowned mindfulness-based stress reduction program, this groundbreaking book shows you how to use natural, medically proven methods to soothe and heal your body, mind, and spirit.

By using the practices described within, you can learn to manage chronic pain resulting from illness and/or stress related disorders…discover the roles that anger and tension play in heart disease… reduce anxiety and feelings of panic…improve overall quality of life and relationships through mindfulness meditation and mindful yoga. More timely than ever before, Full Catastrophe Living is a book for the young and the old, the well, the ill, and anyone trying to live a healthier and saner life in today's world.Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, is perhaps the best-known proponent of using meditation to help patients deal with illness. (The somewhat confusing title is from a line in Zorba the Greek in which the title character refers to the ups and downs of family life as "the full catastrophe.") But this book is also a terrific introduction for anyone who has considered meditating but was afraid it would be too difficult or would include religious practices they found foreign. Kabat-Zinn focuses on "mindfulness," a concept that involves living in the moment, paying attention, and simply "being" rather than "doing." While you can practice anything "mindfully," from taking a walk to cleaning your house, Kabat-Zinn presents several meditation techniques that focus the attention most clearly, whether it's on a simple phrase, your breathing, or various parts of your body. The book goes into detail about how hospital patients have either improved their health or simply come to feel better despite the! ir illne ss by using these techniques, but these meditations can help anyone deal with stress and gain a calmer outlook on life. "When we use the word healing to describe the experiences of people in the stress clinic, what we mean above all is that they are undergoing a profound transformation of view," Kabat-Zinn writes. "Out of this shift in perspective comes an ability to act with greater balance and inner security in the world." --Ben Kallen

How will I know when I am awakened?

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST

Sometimes a question pops up regarding awakening such as, "How will I know when I have experienced pure Mind?" This is not a question about belief as in, "I believe I am awakened to pure Mind" or "I believe I am awakened to pure Mind because my teacher says I am." This is really a question about mystically beholding pure Mind directly.

Strange as it sounds, we are pure Mind or if you prefer, Suchness (tathata), in the sense of absolute substance. But since pure Mind is so pure, what is there to see or to behold except what pure Mind is not. It is much like looking at a fish tank of muddy water trying to see pure, mudless water!

Everything we see through our senses or are conscious of is defiled mind including our thoughts, mental images, internal dialogue, even including the general sense of being. If we could visit a Buddha's own mind it would be just like ours. The only difference is that he sees pure Mind—we can't.

When each of us gazes up the external world together with our subjective mental world with its thoughts and dialogues racing through our head, it is very difficult to focus in such a way as to see only Mind. Yet, this is what Zen calls upon us to do.

Let's not forget that we are, in substance, pure Mind. We just can't remember what we look like! Zen literature tries to remind us. (Yes, we suffer from a kind of spiritual amnesia.)

"To attain supreme enlightenment, one must be able to know spontaneously one's own nature or Essence of Mind, which is neither created nor can it be annihilated. From Ksana to Ksana (momentary sensations), one should be able to realize the Essence of Mind all the time. All things will then be free from restraint (i.e., emancipated). Once the Tathata (Suchness, another name for the Essence of Mind) is known, one will be free from delusion for ever; and in all circumstances one's mind will be in a state of 'Thusness'. Such a state of mind is absolute Truth. If you can see things in such a frame of mind you will have known the Essence of Mind, which is supreme enlightenment" (trans. Mou-Lam, The Sutra of Wei Lang, (1953).

When we discover, as the Zen Sutra says, our Essence of Mind, we immediately recognize ourselves just like we recognize ourselves in a mirror. This puts an end to self-delusion, guessing and believing. It is a bit like waiting for somebody we've never seen before whose name is Dan, who said he will be wearing a white cap and a red blazer. We search the crowd at the train station for this oddly dressed fellow, all the time keeping alert. After a long wait we finally see this person. We go up to this person and ask if his name is Dan. He says it is.

Anyone who has experienced pure Mind can attest to its utter purity and power. When Zen master Huang-po says of this Mind that "it is not green nor yellow, and has neither form nor appearance. It does not belong to the categories of things which exist or do not exist, nor can it be thought of in terms of new and old" we understand his words perfectly because we presently see this Mind. It is so obvious.

Feel the Zen, Be the Zen

Posted: 07 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST

Article by Mandar Karanjkar

When any religion is started or rather to be more precise, when any religion is established by followers of anyenlightened master, the very beauty or the very essence disappears. Each and every religion was very wonderfulwhen the master who was behind it was alive. Then the disciples try to organize the religion, make a foundationor some trust out of it. In this process the very beauty is lost. But, if we have a look, there are a very few religions which have prevented themselves from falling in this trap. Zen comes out to be one of the such religions. The founder of Zen was Bodhidharma. Bodhidharma was a disciple of Buddha. When Bodhidharma was enlightened, he left for Japan. The word Zen comes out to be a synonym of the word Dhyanawhich Buddha in Pali language calledJhan and which was later in Japan pronounced as Zen. The beauty of Zen is that it combines both Taoism and Buddhismin it. It is very significant thing that Zen has not lost its beauty through the ages. It is said that the truth can be realized through the absurdities. When you try to organize it,it just vanishes. It can be observed that when you are given a rule to follow, there is no scopefor your own thinking or rather no scope for your consciousness. When a religion is organized, itgives nothing but rules. Rules do nothing but reduce your opportunities of being aware. In this context, Zen is really a very virtuous sect. Even today also there are a few Zen monks living in remote areas along with a small group of their followers. They do not form any organization nor arethey interested in any recognition. They love to die unrecognized. Generally, disciples naturally have an urge that work or wisdom of their master should survive. In this very effort of preserving, they ruin it. Truth can never be preserved. It can be felt moment to moment. But, we humans, just like money, have a tendency to store the truth for the future and in this very process, the beauty is lost, the truth itself is lost Specialty of Zen is that it focuses on livi! ng truth moment to moment. They will enjoy sitting with their master totally rather than recording his words to listen them in future. Zen works through absurdities. Many master of Zen were famous to enlighten their disciples through their absurd behaviors. This absurdity would include anything from hitting a disciple with Bamboo, or throwing a mind shattering Koan over him or directly throwing the disciple himself down the roof. The basic foundation of Zen can be said to be Zazen. Zazen is a very profound meditation technique which can be very lucidly described in a Haiku-Doing nothing, just sitting....Spring comes........And grass grows by itself......Zazen simply means just sitting in a specific recommended posture. Just sitting means just sitting, without doing anything. The basic focus of Zen is concentrating mind at a single place and then shatterit in a single blow. There are many famous Zen masters such as Dogen, RInjhai, and Bokoju who are very famous for their strange methods of enlightening their disciples. When there is any religion, there is a very big temptation to propagate it, expand it. Most religions lose their very core in the attempt of preserving or expanding the religion. The beauty of Zen lies inthe fact that Zen just doesn't care for its future. It believes in making present as fruitful as possibleand I think this is the highest form of trust shown towards the existence.

This instant classic is a watershed volume sure to rapidly take its place for generations alongside The Three Pillars of Zen as one the first books someone brand new to Zen will turn to as a starting place. The word "Mu" is one ancient Zen teacher's response to the earnest question of whether even a dog has "buddha nature"—and discovering for ourselves the meaning of the master's response is the urgent work of each of us who yearns to be open and at peace. "Practicing Mu" is synonymous with practicing Zen, and "sitting with Mu" is an apt description all Zen meditation. And it is said that all thousands and thousands of koans in the Zen tradition are really just further elaborations of Zen's most important koan, Mu.

This volume brings to together teachers, ancient and modern, from across centuries and the full spectrum of the Zen world to illuminate and clarify the essential matter, the question of how to be most truly ourselves at the deepest level. As the many teachers in this book talk about Mu, we learn how work with the breath in Zen meditation, how to open ourselves to difficulty and joy equally, and how to find freedom amid sinks full of dishes and cars full of children.

Though the third published in Wisdom's "Essential Writings of Zen" series of anthologies (following The Art of Just Sitting, and Sitting with Koans), The Book of Mu is the entryway to the other two, the one with the broadest appeal and the one that everyone should read first.

Stress Reducer Tools: Stress Reduction Help

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 09:00 PM PST

Article by Trevor Johnson

Stressed out and wondering why? Perhaps, it's the anger against your colleagues that you've been building up for so long. Anger leads to anxiety, and anxiety leads to stress; the combination is bad for you and may result in various mental and physical problems. Stress and anger are the perennial evil twins and if you don't take action against both, not only you, but your loved ones will also end up suffering.

If you have experienced any combination of the symptoms listed below, it's time to take immediate steps to rectifying your daily routine and managing your stress and anger. When your reactions are constantly negative in stressful situations, it means you have an anger management problem.

* Consistent headaches at the back of your forehead and in an arched "band" from ear to ear* Insomnia* Feelings of unexplained frustration* Focusing difficulties* Isolation* Stomach problems and ulcers* High blood pressure and panic or anxiety attacks* Temporary verbal abuse hurled against other people* Violence - breaking or destroying personal items, lashing out with arms or legs etc

Here are some excellent stress reducer tools for you to consider.

Physical activity: this is probably the last on your mind after a long grueling day of butting-heads in office. But, the truth is, exercise helps to increase your blood flow to the brain and heart, boosts your energy, and revives you. You can simply take a brisk walk along the road or sprint a little. Some basic stretching exercises would also help. Special exercises to reduce stress can be followed if you feel the stress levels are just too high for normal treatment.

Meditate: you don't need to meditate like a monk, because meditating is not just about trying to be enlightened. Meditation is about relaxing and calming your mind, so even if you sit in a quite area at home, put on some soothing music, close your eyes and enjoy the serenity, you are meditating. Meditation is among the best stress reducer tools you can learn to use.

Wri te: when you stressed out, write down why you feel so. Writing things down will help you to get a breakdown of everything you are feeling at the moment and reading it back to yourself, you'll realize the reasons and be able to think about it all in a more practical way.

Eat Healthy: stress can be aggravated by poor eating habits. If you are the type of person who drops in at the supermarket to pick up an instant meal, take a good look at the food labels on them. Majority contain high sodium, fat and sugar levels. These foods are the worst you can feed your already energy-starved body and will do nothing to help your stress levels reduce.

Say No: as a human being, there's only so much you can take and do within a specific time period. So, if you believe you've reached your limit, accept it and say no to anything extra.

If ordinary stress reducer tools do not seem to help and are gaining no results, seek professional help.

Health Clubs Ontario - Stress Reduction Tips

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 07:00 PM PST

Article by Saman Bakhtiar

Stress and anxiety have been found to be a large contributing factor to many of the illnesses and disease that affect society. The long-term affects of stress hormones on our brains, bodies and immune system and highly damaging. Yet, in the fast-paced, high demand world that we live in stress is inevitable. But, like I tell my Health Club Ontario clients, recognizing the enemy is half the battle. So it is a good thing that we are starting to acknowledging the negative effects that stress has on our lives - in both our mental and physical health.

How do we normally handle stress?Ways of dealing with stress vary from person to person; we however, generally accept that stress is part and parcel of our everyday lives. Some choose to ignore their stress, putting off relieving it until they find the time out of their extraordinary work, home, and social lives to address stress. Usually, this leads to more serious problems such as depression, anxiety attacks, and physical illness. Sometimes, a few lucky ones can use stress as energy to fuel their drive to become more successful, to the detriment of their general moods.

Other people choose to face their stress head on, by powering through their schedule in hopes that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. But this can be folly. There is always more to do. I recommend that my Health Clubs Ontario clients learn to find ways to stop, think and reboot. Try to find ways to relax and unwind once in a while. Relaxation can be achieved through various means; these include exercise, vacations, and eating healthy. If you have trouble finding a place to relax it may be helpful to try dedicating a small space in your house where you could be in solitude.

There is a ton of literature that proves regular exercise and the proper diet can lower stress levels. This may be because of the different hormones secreted during exercise that gives people a sense of well-being. Coupled with a balanced and an appropriate diet program, exercise can be a way ! of not o nly feeling more confident of your health, but looking healthy as well.

Can stress be a deterrent to the activities we want to engage in?Stress can be a big restriction to the things that we want to accomplish. It can make us feel sluggish and irritable making our lives more complicated than they already are. Sometimes, stress can even curb our appetite for life. When we feel under the weather, we most often do not engage in the daily routines we have set for our selves. For instance, we know that exercise can be helpful in managing our stress levels; but what if we feel too lethargic to even get out of bed?

There are many simple ways to handle situations like these; we do not have to just give in to the heaviness that keeps us out of sync. When you wake up in the morning and you do not feel like getting out of bed, take another minute to just curl in and think of happy thoughts. Starting your morning with positive thoughts is a sure way to fire up your energy.

You can also use breathing exercises when you feel too low to even make your way to the gym. Sometimes, in our rush to get things done, we forget that oxygen is an integral part of our functioning right. Sit on your chair and take about ten deep breathes, exhaling slowly. This relaxes even the most agitated of people.

Finally, take time off away from everything. A day at the spa is truly beneficial; you can enjoy a massage and even aromatic therapy if you wish. Seeking professional assistance may be the right choice for you. Talk to a personal trainer or fitness expert like the ones at Health Clubs Ontario. Sometimes it helps to let others assist you in finding the right avenues for reducing the stress you feel.

Tips for Quick Stress Reduction the Natural

Article by Dr. Mital John

A natural view steps back and takes a look at the whole away from the symptoms. By working to naturally resolve the property of stress, you'll achieve relief along with long-term curative rather than just masking over your symptom with a pill.

A natural way to de-stress is to slow the breathing rate down. When we are stressed or anxious, the breathing rate becomes rapid and shallow, breathing from the upper chest. Stress can affect anyone and everyone at some point of time in their life. Stress is believed to trigger 70% of visits to doctors, and 85% of serious illnesses. Natural stress organization techniques provide a desired relief in these patients.

When essential oils are applied on skin, their small aromatic molecules are engrossed through skin into the bloodstream and then carried in the blood to dissimilar parts of the body. When essential oils are inhaled, the small molecules are transmitting via the olfactory system to the limbic area in the brain: the area that is connected to the hormonal and nervous systems as well as the emotions.

Natural Stress Relief Techniques: - * Exercise * Yoga * Meditation * Herbs * Life style changes

Here is another natural stress relief tip and it's free and you can do it anywhere. Mouthful of air you can calm your mind and your body by scheming your breathing. You can lower blood pressure and slow your heart rate by taking slow even breaths. This can be long-established with biofeedback equipment and is one of the easiest stress relief techniques.

Best Choices for Natural Stress Relief: -

* When you've had a rough day take some time when you get home to relax. I know there's too much to do but if you can just manage 15 minutes of time the evening will go so much better. * Be prepared to wait. A book can make a wait in a post office line almost pleasant. * Procrastination is stressful. Whatever you want to do tomorrow, do today; whatever you want to do today, do it now. * Brew some tea, listen to a little music. Relax a! nd be yo ur best for your family.* Prepare for the morning the evening before. Set the breakfast table, make lunches, put out the clothes you plan to wear, etc. * Do nothing which, after being done, leads you to tell a lie. * Make duplicates of all keys. Bury a house key in a secret spot in the garden and carry a duplicate car key in your wallet, apart from your key ring. * Play an instrument especially guitar, if you know how. *Get up fifteen minutes earlier in the morning. The inevitable morning mishaps will be less stressful.

Growing Up Begins With Stress Reduction

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST

Article by Owen Jones

Although we are all aware of the fact that most people are under greater stress than ever before, do people also comprehend how very bad for you too much stress can be?

At the thin edge of the wedge, stress can give you butterflies in your stomach or even diarrhea; it can produce headaches and even depression and it can lead to heart disease. Stress can radically affect your mind and your body. Having said that, some stress is or can be a good influence.

Some people say that they perform better under stress, actors and some executives, for example, but the real solution is to be able to manage your stress levels within a zone that you are happy with.

The first step to managing stress is to find out what is causing you the most stress. The two main reasons are financial and emotional: either you cannot pay your bills or you are having problems with your partner. Next comes your work, your kids and your house or an illness in the family. What can you do to relieve this stress? Well, to be truthful, it is horses for courses. We are not all the same and we do not all enjoy doing the same things, but I can name a couple of the most popular methods of reducing stress without having to go to a psychiatrist.

Reading a magazine in a comfortable and soothing location is very de-stressing to many people. Sitting up in warm bed or sitting out in a fragrant garden reading a good book is very popular. So is writing. Some people find that it helps to write their sentiments down. This need not be in the form of a novel, but you could keep a diary, a journal or even a blog (an online, interactive journal).

These writings can be as simple or as complicated as you like: from random notes about how you feel to full explanations. Just do not let writing become a duty, which will only add to your stress.

You could also lie in a hot bath or go for a cool swim. You could have a sauna, a Jacuzzi or a massage or a facial or manicure or have your hair done. Pampering yourself is a good ! way of r ewarding yourself, which will give you a feeling of achievement, which will also ease stress. It makes all that stress seem worth it.

Often stress comes out of disorder, so try to put some order back into your life. The best place to start is to try to organize your time, your life, around the things that you NEED to do. You have to eat, rest, pay your bills and work (whether that is in the home or at a career).

Once you have plotted enough time to accomplish those duties, you can 'fill in the spaces' with other activities that you would like to do. This is the space for friends, hobbies, sports or even a second job, so that you can manage a really special holiday, but keep the second job a fun job.

Avoiding negative people will reduce your stress.. Some people are always moaning and those people are no good to you. Associate with people who are positive about life; people who recognize that not everything will always go their own way and understand that they have to do something about it, not just complain over another beer between puffs on a cigarette.

Is Learning Subconscious Mind Power Dangerous?

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

Article by Amelia Traverne

If you've ever seen the old movie, 'Field of Dreams,' you might remember the saying, 'If you build it, they will come.' You have your own field of dreams, and that is your subconscious mind. In this case, 'If you think it, it will come.'

Every human being has a mind, and with their mind, the ability to take on their own dreams and turn them into reality.

The power of the mind is a beautiful thing, honestly. The mind has the power to heal us, to transcend us. to make us feel good or make us feel bad. The subconscious mind power that each of us have is enough to completely change the world. if we all would only take control of that power.

If you're still skeptical it's not like you're the only person out there. We understand how difficult it is to go from doing something you're used to everyday to changing the whole thought process. However, it's important to keep an open mind about the material we're about to provide. The scientific or medical explanation of subconscious mind power is the Placebo Effect.

Called the 'placebo effect,' it's most often used when medical trials are underway. One group of patients in the study is given a placebo, which is made of some type of inert substance that has no physical effect. The other group of patients in the study is given the actual drug.

This example - the placebo control - is something that's used repeatedly in all drug tests, and it's something that scientists have to correct for in their data gathering.

Studies show that often the placebo was as effective as the real medication in helping the patient.

Why is this true? These people were told what the medication would do, and if they believed they were being given the real pill, their subconscious minds often gave them the 'benefits' and 'side effects' of the real drug.

Think about this in your own situation. Perhaps you haven't been involved in any medical trials, but when you go to the doctor, are you told a specific medication is going to give you side ! effects? If the doctor minimizes side effects to you, don't be surprised.

Since they know that the power of suggestion can cause their patients to experience these effects, they may omit these details to prevent this from happening.

What do these two examples above prove? That the power of suggestion AND the power of the subconscious mind will give you a very powerful results.

If this works in the medical realm, why can't it work in the everyday realm of your life? What is preventing you from tapping into your mind power and positively changing your life? Some people use the power of suggestion to change the way their subconscious mind works.

While you can think about it all you want, there are several different ways to break the outer shell of the subconscious mind. The first thing we would like to see you do is close your eyes. Visualize just one thing that you want and picture the way your life would be if you had it.

Another way to visualize that's very effective, as well as with the first technique, is to create a physical picture of what you want. For example, if you want a new car, you can find a picture of the car you want in a magazine or something similar. Put that picture on your refrigerator so that you see it several times a day. Or, better yet, have a friend take a picture of you standing next to that car.

Then place this picture somewhere that you'll see it every day. You have to see the picture often in order to get the best results from this method. The more you see it, the stronger this image becomes in your subconscious mind and the more of your own mind power you can put towards achieving this goal.

There are those who have always known about these techniques and how effective subconscious mind power can be in shaping the world around you. However, a mounting body of scientific evidence is starting to point to the basis of this phenomenon in the laws of physics.

Understand that the subconscious mind is how we create matter and energy. Quantum ph! ysics sh ows that Without the observer it is not possible for anything to exist.

This means in essence that unless there is an observer, energy and therefore matter, can not exist.

If matter and energy exist only because they is observed, then, the mind is responsible for the matter's existence, and not the opposite as has been thought previously.

It's a true testament to the fact that everything is created through the mind and why the subconscious mind is so powerful.

Ancient religions have known this for thousands of years, but modern science has finally jumped on board with this knowledge, too, since the advent of quantum physics. Therefore, no matter your spiritual mindset, you can't deny that quantum physics proves the power of the mind.

If you were able to harness your own subconscious mind power to change reality to your own ends, you'd certainly want to - and you can, once you learn to communicate with your subconscious.

Unfortunately there are many of you who have read this entire article and still feel skeptical. If this is the case, we suggest spending the next week or two trying it out. Yes, it can be effective in a short period of time, even if it has positive results in other areas. You'll know when your days start to turn around and those heavy burdens are lifted off your shoulders.

Meditation Retreats to Learn About the Art and Practice of Meditation

Posted: 06 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Article by Lily Candice

Meditation retreats are available in India to avail the discerning individual the opportunity to achieve freedom of the mind. Meditation is a practice with roots in India which has been applied over hundreds of years and has been developed by established and experienced teachers into a fine art form. The purpose of meditation is to free the heart and mind from confusion and self centeredness which more than often leads to anguish. This anguish is not only mental but produces physical ailments in the involved person. The goal and focus of visiting meditation retreats to learn about the art and practice of meditation is to undergo a total rehabilitation of the mind. The freed mind will then have the capability to function properly, hence enabled to make the right and unemotional decisions and responses to the very complex set of problems that we encounter on a daily basis.Z Meditation offers meditation retreats to willing students on both short course and long course programs. These meditation retreats offered by Z Meditation are conducted within a pleasant and serene environment in a picturesque small town in the Himalayas. This type of environment is essential for the learning of meditation as the student needs not be distracted in any way. The meditation retreats, which take the form of lessons, lectures and assignments, may be on an individual or group basis, though the individual retreats are more suited to those experienced in the practice of meditation; while the group meditation retreats are better taken up by those who are being newly inducted to meditation.Meditation retreats are not religiously biased in any way though meditation and religion may be closely linked from historical antecedents. The two have however been separated with the passage of time with most meditation centers today not having any religious affiliation. So no matter what your religious orientation or beliefs may be, meditation retreats are equally applicable to all. The unifying factor is a sincere belief in the adhe! rent tha t learning and practice of meditation is well and able to help him or her in the search for a balanced mind, soul and body. This requirement is of the utmost importance as the true knowledge can only be impressed upon the willing student.A great number of would be practitioners of meditation have been kept away because of the erroneous belief that meditation involves a lot of strange postures and esoteric chanting. They somehow liken the things that go on at meditation retreats with occultist voodoo practice. This cannot be more false. There are some meditation retreats that employ certain sitting positions and the chanting of mantras to assist in the practice of meditation, but these processes are mainly used to achieve a minimum level of stability and firmness of the mind, preparatory to the actual practice of meditation. Meditation retreats are not in any way contrary to normal and morally upright human existence. For those considering taking a break at one of several meditation retreats in India, the pertinent question to ask of oneself is: Am I truly convinced of the benefits accruable to my life and existence from participating in this program? The merely curious will not be able to reap the benefits of an all round feeling of well being that is the end result of taking part in meditation retreats.

Shaquille O’Neal: Kobe Bryant is the Greatest Laker Ever

Shaq continues to promote his new book, and tells KTLA that his former teammate and nemesis Kobe Bryant is the greatest Los Angeles Laker of all time: "Here's one area of disagreement between Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant that won't further fuel the divide between them: debating who deserves to be named the all-time greatest Laker. Bryant has long insisted that Jerry West holds that honor for his role as both a player and a general manager. But O'Neal counters that the recognition should go to Bryant himself. 'Based on what he's done, he's probably the greatest Laker of all time,' O'Neal said of Bryant on KTLA Monday to promote his book, 'Shaq Uncut.' 'If he gets another championship, he'll tie with Kareem. That will put him up there.' … 'It's a different kind of great,' O'Neal said of Bryant. 'He had the skills to be an all-around player. I'm just a big man so I just do big-man stuff. I'm just in the big-man category.'"
