One Moment Meditation - Video

Gladly I bumped into this video with its charming line drawings and gentle and rather good instructions. It is a skillful teaching to do with understanding that meditation is every moment. The instruction given in the video is to start with a purposeful one minute of meditation. Through practicing that you get to know what moment-to-moment meditations is. It is an interesting approach to making this point.

Hat tip to Mia for linking to this video.

(黃慧音) Imee Ooi - Repentance (Kinh Sám Hối) 忏悔文

Website: www.facebook.com rapidshare.com "All the wrong doings I've done in the past are caused by greed, rage and lack of wisdom. For all the consequences due to my actions, words and thoughts, I repent fully today." Repentance originates from Ksama in Sanskrit, and the Repentance Verses are chants used to confess one's errors and ask for tolerance and forgiveness. All the wrong-doings are the results of the greedy heart, the anguish heart, and the foolish and unreasonable heart, and they are caused by the actions of the body, the spoken words and the mind. If one could realize the origin of their sins and genuinely reflect within the self, through repentance, the sins could be purified. When Buddhist practitioners are engaged in introspection or when monks have broken the monastic codes, they would make public vows in front of the Buddha, the Goddess of Mercy - Guanyin, the elders or the general public, and promise that they would never make the same mistakes again; in order to clear their sins, the would sing the Repentance Verses. The Repent Method is an important method of cultivation in Buddhism. Repentance lessens the effects of our negative karma. The Buddha advises people to repent for all their unwholesome actions, speech and thoughts.

Army dad ordered to remove Tibetan prayer flags from home

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 07:00 AM PST

Would your neighbors balk if you hung prayer flags outside your home?

By Danny Fisher

The Hudson Star Observer reports that the Lighthouse Villas Homeowners Association in Hudson, WI, has sent a letter ordering Don Chering to remove Tibetan prayer flags from the front of his home by the end of this month. Chering, a practicing Buddhist, is refusing to remove the flags, which he first hung on November 9th of last year, after his son Aaron left for basic training in the U.S. Army.

He says of his neighborhood, "We're a community, and they want to homogenize everybody. We live side-by-side as Christians and Buddhists. Outside are Christmas lights, prayer flags and an American flag. That's how we should be living in this country. That's what our founding fathers intended for us. We shouldn't be pushing each other around. We shouldn't be forcing our beliefs on other people. And we sure as heck shouldn't be stopping other people from practicing their beliefs respectfully — in a way that doesn't hurt anybody." Read the whole story here.

Government of Burma releases political prisoners, signs ceasefire with Karen National Union; Aung San Suu Kyi to run for office

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST

Almost immediately following the news that the government of Burma had signed a ceasefire with the Karen National Union — for many years, the two groups have been locked in bloody civil war over the issue of greater autonomy for the latter – the Democratic Voice of Burma reports that a number of political prisoners have been released from prison, including former prime minister Khin Nyunt and "Saffron
Revolution"-organizing monk U Gambira. Along with Nobel Peace laureate and National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's recent announcement that
she will run for office in the next parliamentary election, these seem like hopeful signs that meaningful transformation is taking place in a country that has long suffered gross human rights violations.
