Elections, Tidalwaves, and Buddhism
Arun, over during Angry Asian Buddhist, posted the following about our new elections here in the U.S.:
The Buddhist blogs indeed have been following the electionbut with the special emphasis upon white masculine candidates. Sift back through this seasons articles to see Tricycle reminisce about Jerry Brown, while Shambhala Sun swoons over Eric Schneiderman.
Four years ago, there was some fad around Representatives Mazie Hirono as well as Hank Johnson, both of them Democrats who identify as Buddhists. Both held their seats final night. But if youve usually been following Shambhala Sun as well as Tricycle, youll have longed for out upon Democrat Colleen Hanabusa, who took back Hawaiis First congressional district from the Republicans, defeating Charles Djou. Oh, as well as shes Buddhist too.
Just take which in for the moment. Next years Hawaiian congressional delegation to the House will be the group of Asian American Buddhist women!
It's always interesting to me what happens when we look beyond the major trend of an election, as well as see things like this starting on. Another blogger also referred to upon his Facebook page which over 100 plainly happy folks were elected to various positions around the nation. It's the good reminder to not get too bound upon the tidal wave, because there's always more water you do something different all around it.
